Exodus a Book of Pictures

In a recent study of the Bible, we saw that Exodus is a book of pictures showing God’s salvation out of the world. For instance, Israel is a picture of all of God’s people. Egypt is a picture of this world that keeps God’s people enslaved and loving it.  Pharaoh is a picture of the god of this age, who burdens us down with hard labor while in the world. We know that a picture is worth a thousand words. When comparing Genesis and Exodus, we saw that our salvation has two sides, the individual and the corporate. In Genesis the individual side is illustrated with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Abraham was called and lived by faith, Isaac enjoyed the father’s riches, and Jacob was transform from being a heel holder to Israel the prince of God. In Exodus there is the corporate side of God’s salvation. God wants a people called out of the world, sanctified, following Him, and living as His testimony. Also, when looking at Genesis, there is Babylon representing the idolatrous world, out of which Abraham came. Sodom representing the sinful world out of which Lot was snatched and Egypt being worldly system out of which God wants us to be separated. For this escape we need to be with God’s people having a corporate redemption (rescuing out), and having God’s leading, supplying, revelation, and building up. This is possible by being with God’s people corporately. The apostle Paul wrote to the churches in Galatia: ” Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to rescue from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father”(Gal.1:3-4).
